mu-SIC Mentorship Program
The mu-SIC Mentorship Program gives graduate students, who are currently working closely with the mu-SIC consortium, the chance to interact in a meaningful way with industry sponsors of the consortium. In turn this symbiotic relationship between mentor and mentee allows the participating Sponsor a more hands-on approach in guiding microseismic research.
The requirements for mentoring a graduate student:
- Experience in microseismic monitoring.
- Availability to have ongoing communication with a graduate student in a media that is best suited to both participating parties (i.e. face to face weekly meetings, teleconference meetings etc.).
For those interested in the Mu-SIC Mentorship Program please indicate:
- Your experience with microseismic monitoring so an appropriate mentor/mentee match can be made.
- Your availability to advise a graduate student throughout a specified time frame.
- Preferred means of communication. As this is a joint research consortium between the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta it would be unrealistic for a student at the University of Alberta to have weekly meetings in Calgary with a Sponsor. However, an appropriate means of communication can be worked out based on Sponsor/student interest.
As this is a new initiative the mu-SIC consortium is open to suggestions based on feedback from interested Sponsors. We would like to emphasize that the mu-SIC Mentorship Program not be limited to Geophysicists and is extended to Engineers and other disciplines with an interest in microseismic monitoring.
For those interested in this initiative, please contact Maria Gallant (mjgallan@ucalgary.ca) with any feedback.
