About mu-SIC

The Microseismic Industry Consortium (mu-SIC) is a novel, applied-research initiative dedicated to the advancement of research, education and technological innovations in microseismic methods.

mu-SIC is jointly hosted by the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary and is sponsored by the exploration and service companies active in microseismic monitoring.

Taking advantage of its multidisciplinary links to researchers at both universities, mu-SIC benefits from access to specialists in a variety of related disciplines.

Our research vision for mu-SIC encompasses data acquisition, processing and interpretation within a multidisciplinary research environment.  As the project evolves, specific research goals and objectives will be developed in close consultation with industry sponsors. Key aspects of our research vision include the following:

1.             Creating improved algorithms for data processing.

2.             Developing case histories using existing and newly acquired microseismic data.

3.             Improving geomechanical characterization of fracture processes.

4.             Simulating fracture processes by numerical methods.

5.             Understanding the stress field and how it evolves.

6.             Investigating temporal changes in reservoir conditions, including seismic anisotropy.
